Civilian protection. Members of the rescue parties like this worker must be prepared to reach victims of bomb raids and fallen debris and give them emergency first aid treatment. It is not always possible to remove debris by hand, therefore, rescue workers' trucks carry equipment to enable the rescue squad to shore up masonry, cut through steel or stone, shut off broken mains or tunnel through conglomerate heaps of debris. The worker here shown is using an acetylene torch to cut away a stubborn resisting piece of expanded steel

Guntersville Dam and powerhouse. Closeup view of powerhouse. Note texture of concrete on electrical bay which is typical of most TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) projects. Pattern is produced by alternating directions of grain in adjoining form panels. Rough-sawn lumber is used to make grain more pronounced. Heavy texture conceals color and surface irregularities of concrete and will become particularly valuable as concrete ages. Office floor is above flood level and has continuous glass brick strip

A close up of a stone wall with a fire hydrant. Flagstone wall stone, backgrounds textures.
