Colonial National Historical Park, Lot 77, Dudley Digges (formerly West) House, Stone Steps, Main Street, Yorktown, York County, Virginia
Summary
Significance: Stone "A" was unearthed in front of the Dudley Digges House. Stone "B" had been salvaged from the original 18th century steps and reused in a later porch for the Dudley Digges House. They are recorded here as a basis for the restoration of the front steps, and also because of the unusual fastening details. Instead of iron cramps leaded in place, these steps utilize a system of "keying" which is an integral part of the stone.
