Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich was a prominent German painter, engraver and draughtsman of the 18th century. He was born on 30 October 1712 in Weimar, Germany. Dietrich was known for his ability to create intricate and detailed works of art that captured the essence of the Baroque and Rococo styles. Dietrich received his formal art training at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under the tutelage of Johann Alexander Thiele. He quickly rose to prominence as a painter and was appointed court painter to the Elector of Saxony in 1748. Dietrich's works were highly sought after by collectors and art lovers throughout Europe. He was known for his ability to create highly detailed and realistic paintings of landscapes, animals and people. His works often depicted scenes from everyday life, such as farmers working in the fields or children playing. In addition to his paintings, Dietrich was also an accomplished engraver and draughtsman. He produced numerous prints and drawings which were widely distributed throughout Europe. Many of his works were used as illustrations in books and other publications. Dietrich died on 23 April 1774 in Dresden, Germany. His legacy lives on through his many works of art, which continue to be admired and studied by art historians and enthusiasts around the world.
