hurch in re-gaha, have special seats reserved and bepraised by the preacher, they will patron-ize the church : but if the moral charac-ter of secret societies, of the habrt of con-cealment and of the principles involvedbe laid bare, they are angry and thepreacher who does it will suffer. The only way to be free to discuss so-cieties in the light of Gods Word is tokeep all members of secret societies outof the church. It is not her outside foes that thechurch needs to fear; it is those whohave gained an entrance. Very few preachers will expose and denounce anevil when they know well that theirfriends and members just before themhave a share in it. No one but a moralhero will do this, and it is too much toexpect that all preachers will be moralheroes. The only way to keep the pulpit freeis to keep the pew free. This is thelesson of experience and of observation^,and it has few exceptions. —The Christian Nation. Teachableness is a rose without athorn. Egotism is a thorn without a rose.

Later the Red Men cameforward with their war whoops to satis-fy the ignorant and superstitious whiteman, whose taste naturally ran to thebase and grotesque. But now this is notenough to satisfy the downward trendand men call themselves Buffaloes, Elks,Badgers and Beavers. Noble Order of Dogs. It seems that even these do not nowsatisfy the taste of some, and theDogs are organized. We quote fromthe Chicago Record-Herald of July 5 :Dallas, Texas, has a Dog Club com-posed of prominent business men. Itsproper title is The Noble Ord
