The only way to be free to discuss so-cieties in the light of Gods Word is tokeep all members of secret societies outof the church. It is not her outside foes that thechurch needs to fear; it is those whohave gained an entrance. Very few preachers will expose and denounce anevil when they know well that theirfriends and members just before themhave a share in it. No one but a moralhero will do this, and it is too much toexpect that all preachers will be moralheroes. The only way to keep the pulpit freeis to keep the pew free. This is thelesson of experience and of observation^,and it has few exceptions. —The Christian Nation. Teachableness is a rose without athorn. Egotism is a thorn without a rose.
