Christian Colbert, a 17-year-old senior at Westview High School in Phoenix, accepts a highly selective Marine Corps Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps [NROTC] Scholarship from Arizona Marines during an awards assembly at Westview H.S., May 1, 2015. Colbert chose the NROTC Scholarship over more than 10 other scholarship opportunities totaling nearly a million dollars. “It’s a great opportunity to go to ASU [Arizona State University] and prepare myself for the rest of my life,” said Colbert. “I’m going to become a Marine officer and getting my education through that is just the cherry on top.” The Marine Corps NROTC scholarship program determines its recipients during two nationally competitive selection periods each year.
