Robert French - Cemetery, Glasnevin, Co. Dublin
Summary
Back to the dead centre of the capital this morning, to the cemetery at Glasnevin in North Dublin. A place that not so long ago nobody bar mourners visited, which has since become a considerable tourist attraction. Mr. French got himself an eagle's eye view of the area, and my how it has changed! I think it will take some work to identify any of the buildings on view here?..Given that the location was known, and the buildings in the distance all largely identifiable, the remaining unknown as the date. With thanks to the efforts of Niall McAuley ( /photos/gnmcauley/ ) and several others, there is agreement that this image was captured in the late 1890s or early 1900s. (And possibly even a nice round '1900'....)...Photographer: Robert French..Collection: Lawrence Photograph Collection ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000313414 ) ..Date: Catalogue range c.1865-1914. Very likely c.1900..NLI Ref: L_ROY_06467 ( vtls000320313 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
