Louis Wain (1860-1939) was an English artist best known for his whimsical illustrations of cats. He began his career as a freelance artist, working for various magazines and newspapers. In the 1880s he began to focus on cats and his illustrations of anthropomorphised felines became incredibly popular. His style evolved over the years, becoming more abstract and psychedelic as he struggled with mental illness. Despite his struggles, Wain continued to create art until his death. Today, his work is celebrated for its unique style and contribution to the world of cat art.
