II. Randolph-Macon Womans College LYNCHBURG, VA. GENERAL INFORMATION. Purpose. This institution is the result of an effort to found a college in Virginia which should offer to women the sameadvantages and require the same attainments for graduation as areafforded and required at our best Virginia colleges for men. Withsix endowed colleges and two universities for men in this educatingState of the South there was no endowed college offering similar facilitiesto women. Hence the resolution of the founders in 1891, which isframed for the guidance of the executive officers of the College: We wish to establish in Virginia a College where ouryoung women may obtain an education eqiial to that givenin our best colleges for young men, and tinder environ-ments in harmony u)ith Southern ideals of tvomanJiood;where the dignity and strength of fully developed facultiesand the charm of the highest literary ctilture may be ac-quired by our daughters without loss of womans crowningglory, her gentlene
