, won the third prize in the1912 competition for places under 10,-000 population. The front, sides and back of the win-dow at the top were covered with greenspruce, with cotton batting to representsnow. Red and green tissue paper, withoccasional flowers, chrysanthemums,violets, carnations, etc., were also used. The front of the window containedvarious kinds of candies, nuts, oranges,apples, Malaga grapes, chocolates, pre-served ginger, layer raisins, boxes ofchocolates, pineapple, fritters, dates,figs, jams, glace cherries, bottled cher-ries, apple butter, olives, etc. The top shelf was supported by threepiles of canned tomatoes, and placed onthis shelf were evaporated peaches, apri-cots, and plums. Between some of thegoods on top shelf were squares of glasswith edges projecting, and on thesesmall goods were placed, such as onionsalt, peanut butter, olives, pots of jelly,etc. Other goods on top shelf werepackets of mincemeat, tins of biscuits,cream cheese and jam° THE CANADIAN GROCER
