Boyd J. Tallman (1858-1932) was born on a farm near Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He taught school as a young man and attended Washington and Jefferson College, though he did not graduate from there. He studied law in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and then came to Walla Walla, Washington Territory, in May, 1885. He was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Walla Walla and then moved to Seattle in 1887. In 1900, he was elected as judge for the superior court of Washington.
