Sonars ofLaboratories design were installedon every type of naval ship. The thoroughness and versatilityof the Laboratories sonar develop-ment work were demonstrated when,midway through the war, its scien-tists were called upon to change com-pletely the emphasis of their investi-gations. During the first part of thewar, the problem had been one en-tirely of using sonar to combat Ger-man U-boats. With the winning ofthe Battle of the Atlantic, the empha-sis changed to the Pacific theater,where Allied submarines were in theposition that German underseas crafthad occupied in the Atlantic; that is,using sonar on submarines to attackmerchantmen and warships. Circuits have always been one ofthe Laboratories special interests.Some years before the war, a scien-tist and an engineer teamed up todevelop a circuit that would do sumsin

US Air Force (USAF) First Lieutenant (1LT) Eric Horst, 31st Security Forces Squadron (SFS), Aviano Air Base (AB), Italy relays that three victims are trapped in various vehicles. 1LT Horst is the initial responder to a simulated force protection exercise. The exercise culminated with a simulated fuel-truck exploding near the flightline dormitories across from the Base Exchange causing significant casualties, damage and overturned vehicles.
