Architectural Remains, Unit A, Sub-unit 39, Jamestown, James City County, Virginia
Summary
Significance: The site was first excavated in 1934, and the foundations were drawn by HABS around that time.
The archaeological work uncovered a pair of rowhouses made of brick and likely one-story in height. Each house had a full cellar and later renovations added a shed room on the south side. The location of the chimneys is not clear, but the quality of the artifact assemblage suggests this was a domestic site. Artifacts include a casement window, hardware, and tin-glazed ceramic tiles.
Followers of Nathaniel Bacon burned the buildings in 1676.
