This figure is reproduced from a life-size photograph, and represents a sample of the newlyset oysters taken from Point Judith pond by Mr. George A. Griffin. The small specimens are seen to be very thickly scattered over the surface of the large oyster shell, and the larger specimens below and to the left represent oysters which have set on the widgeon grass. The under surface of these oysters bears a deep groove made by the growing of the shell around the spear of grass.
