Zimmerman first received exposure to Army Human Resources processes while serving with the 6250th Unites States Army Hospital at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC).

It was during this time she realized the Army needed to streamline it's HR processes into one system.
