A U.S. Navy Sailor stands watch as a landing craft, air cushion with Assault Craft Unit 4 returns to the USS Bataan (LHD 5), at sea, Feb. 24, 2014, during Spanish Amphibious Bilateral Exercise (PHIBLEX) 2014. U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) are working alongside Portuguese Marines and Spanish Marines in order to build global maritime partnerships with European nations and improve maritime safety and security. The MEU is deployed to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
