Where direct extension does occur, perforation of theintestine, the involvement of the peritonaeum, etc., may follow. The firstcase in the authors experience was an example of the immense destruc-tion by gradual extension that may take place. In this patient, a man of66 years of age, the first symptoms of the disease dated back six years.On his death, almost the entire bladder was found to be involved by. can-cerous growth. The inner surface was covered with papillse. Fromthe right side of the bladder the disease had extended outward, attackingall the tissues between this point and the right acetabulum, which it haddestroyed, allowing the head and neck of the femur to enter the pelvisas far as the great trochanter.
