With an infant mortality offorty-four per cent, (of total number of deaths), thereis an immense field right here for visiting nurses*settlements. Investigation has shown the impaired health andweakened condition of the Filipino people (who arenot a strong or enduring race) to be largely dueto the prevalence not only of tuberculosis, but ofthe hook-worm disease, which seems to have noequal in its capacity to enervate and undermine thesystem.
