69th Infantry Leaves Armory for Camp Mills
Summary
Soldiers of the New York National Guard's 69th Infantry Regiment leave their armory on Lexington Avenue in New York City on August, 20, 1917 on their way to Camp Mills outside Garden City, N.Y. on Long Island where the units of the 42n Infantry Division-- the Rainbow Division-- were directed to mobilize for training. The New Yorkers would be renamed the 165th U.S. Infantry after joining the division made up of National Guard units from 26 states. ( Photo courtesy New York State Military Museum)
