Summary

171005-N-ZN152-0119 PUERTO RICO (Oct. 5, 2017) - A Puerto Rican mother and child await medical evacuation aboard the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20). Comfort is currently underway and additional mission assignments are expected to be scheduled based on assessments by the Department of Defense (DoD), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Puerto Rico's Office of Emergency Management and will deploy appropriately on a route to help those needing medical services. The DoD is supporting FEMA, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
