ons. This premonitory character of the temperature in the face of animpending relapse is almost always associated with a similar peculiarityof the pulse. It is likely under such circumstances, in spite of per-fectly quiet, careful behavior on the part of the patient, to exhibit, inaddition to relatively great frequency, more frequent and unusuallymarked fluctuations. If a large number of curves from cases of relapse are analyzed, itwill be observed—as appears to me not to have been sufficiently empha-sized heretofore—that in the majority this peculiar premonitory char-acter of the pulse-curve, which is analogous to that of the temperature-curve, is present in more or less distinctly marked degree. Eventhe cases in which, in spite of a subnormal course of the temperatureafter the primary defervescence, relapse occurs, the onset is frequentlypreceded by the important diagnostic character of the pulse mentioned.1 Deutsch.
