The flap was laidinto the wound, leaving one-third bare; tnewound was packed with gauze, which wasallowed to remain twenty-four hours andthen removed, and the wound was frequentlyirrigated with hot saline solution. As a result, there was no further dis-charge of pus, and the wound healed rapidly.The tonsil became normal and the patientshealth was much improved. cause the teeth were loose and there waspus oozing from the gingival margin.Yet in many of these cases I have foundthat the patient was suffering from syph-ilis, and as a rule the patient would admitthat he or she had some time in the pastbecome infected, and been under specifictreatment.
