Detail.—In this branch of the work, and indeed in allbranches, only the most careful attention to detail in all directions will aidus in the production of reliable pictures, and a good routine is essential.Mechanical contrivances which facilitate movements of apparatus, and enableus to reproduce at subsequent examinations the same relative positions oftube, patient, and plate, will be found of the greatest service. The fluor-escent screen should be adaptable for the ready insertion of the plate whenan exposure has to be made. Since the w^ork is conducted in the dark, allmetal points should be insulated or the whole apparatus earthed, and allthe controlling factors must be at hand. Nothing is more trying than workof this exacting nature with the factors out of order. Consequently, greatcare should be exercised in the selection of all apparatus, with all the featuresof which the operator must be perfectly famihar.
