and it is now believed that a firm foundation hasbeen secured. The track is laid with 70-pound T-rail in 33-foot lengths,the use of the long rail affording a saving in the number ofjoints. The rails rest on 6xS-inchx8-foot ties, the greaterportion of which are of cedar, although some cypress andtamarack ties are used. The ties are spaced 17 to the rail.The joints are of the Weber type 22 inches long with fourbolts and the rails are bonded with the Ohio Brass Companyssoldered spectacle type of bond. At intervals of 1,000 feetcross-bonds of No. 0000 copper wire are installed. Elgln-Belvldere Construction—Arrangement of Transmission, Feederand Trolley Wires. With one strand of barbed wire at the top. The cattle guardsare of treated oak of the slat type. Transmission Line and Overhead Construction. Current for the operation of the line will be obtainedfrom the power house of the Aurora Elgin & Chicago Rail-way at Batavia. This well-designed power plant was de-scribed in The Street Railway Review for June, 1905. Thecurrent will be taken from that companys Clintonville sub-station and transmitted through a high-tension line acrossthe country to Elgin. The three-phase alternating current ata pressure of 26,400 volts will be stepped down andtransformed to direct current at an operating pressure of 600volts at three substations located at Gilberts, Union andGarden Prairie. Except through towns and at other points where crosssuspension is necessary the overhead construction is of thebracket type, and the high-tension, feeder, telephone andtrolley wires are a
