The blood examinations, including Wassermann, areperfectly negative and he carries no elevation of temperature. There are, however, certain conditions of his framework whichcharacterize a special congenital state. The scleras present apale china-blue appearance and this constitutes the obscure en-tity associated very closely with fragilitas ossium or brittle bones.The pale china-blue appearance of the scleras is, of course, verycharacteristic and the very small and poorly developed bones areto be expected in company with it. Blue scleras are not infrequent in young children with tuber-culosis ; they are also found in congenital heart disease but insuch cases it is possible the discoloration is due to passivehyperaemia. The victims of this unfortunate coincidence areusually small of stature, fractures and sprains occur easily, butfortunately, as a rule, the patients make good recoveries. Inthis case the disability following the fractures has been more orless permanent; this is an exception; this boys bones, when frac-tured, do not unite, the best result obtainable being fibrous union.
