There are, however, certain conditions of his framework whichcharacterize a special congenital state. The scleras present apale china-blue appearance and this constitutes the obscure en-tity associated very closely with fragilitas ossium or brittle bones.The pale china-blue appearance of the scleras is, of course, verycharacteristic and the very small and poorly developed bones areto be expected in company with it. Blue scleras are not infrequent in young children with tuber-culosis ; they are also found in congenital heart disease but insuch cases it is possible the discoloration is due to passivehyperaemia.
