The condition is found in the same class ofcases as the above, but with some important additions asregards the muscles, viz., in the early stages of peripheralneurites of all kinds, rheumatic (facial), traumatic, alco-holic, etc., also of infantile paralysis—in fact, it may befound in the early stages of all conditions involving a lesionof the second trophic realm (vide reaction of degeneration).
