The Wright Brothers test fly their aircraft on Fort Myer's parade field. This series of test flights resulted in the Army purchasing its first aircraft. In the first flight, Sept. 9, 1908, Orville Wright kept the plane aloft 71 seconds. The second flight resulted in a crash that left Wright severely cut and bruised and his passenger, Army LT.
