Secretary Henry Wallace today told the Senate Banking and Currency Committee, which is considering a bill to revamp the Farm Credit System, that farmers need relief from 'excessive interest charges and debts which they cannot pay.' He approved the general objectives of the bill, but suggested changes which he said would result in a 'sounder government credit policy,' and clear up the present 'farm debt muddle.' Senate Banking and Currency Committee hears Secretary Wallace. Washington, D.C., June 7. Secretary of Agriculture, Henry Wallace, today told the Senate Banking and Currency Committee that he approved the bill to revamp the Farm Credit System because farmers need relief from 'excessive interest charges and debts which they cannot pay. In addition,' he said, '60 percent of all the National Farm Loan Associations have had their capitol so impaired that they cannot make new loans. Beyond question there is room for improvement in both the general farm credit situation and the Federal Land Bank System'

NLRB Regional Director at Cincinnati questioned by House Committee. Washington, D.C., Dec. 18. Philip G. Phillips, Regional Director of the National Labor Relations Board at Cincinnati, was questioned by the House Committee investigating the NLRB regarding a report he made last January to Nathan Witt, Board Secretary, in which he said that the City Editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer 'and my guild friends will doubtless be able to take care of' a series of articles about a board hearing in the case of the American Rolling Mills Co. Asked whether he did not think this was suppressing news about the board, Phillips replied, that was not because he did not take credit for killing the story but for telling the City Editor that it was 'made out of whole cloth, vicious, and full of lies.' He said his interest in the case was to see that 'the truth should be printed about the board'

Superior chickens goal of government experts. Beltsville, MD, Jan. 19. In the future if your chicken, whether it's fried a la Maryland, baked or prepared any other style, is more succulent and of better flavor credit will be due the experts at Uncle Sam's Department of Agriculture experimental farm here. They are striving daily to breed a superior type of bird, superior in meat quality, egg production and growth. During the experiments a careful check is kept on each egg from the time it leaves the nest until it hatches a baby chick. The egg is numbered to correspond wit the one on the leg band of the hen; then a daily record is kept of both the dam and the sire until the fourth generation, 1/19/38.
