Vid sidan av sin profession rönte Isander stor respekt för sina insatser inom simkonsten och speciellt för Linköpings Allmänna Simsällskap (LASS). Vid en nödvändig rekonstruktion av sällskapet utsågs Isander till ordförande och promotor. Hans namn finns även bevarat genom det av honom uppfunna Isanderska hoppet, ett av simhopptabellernas svåraste men också vackraste hopp.

Vi får förmoda att dessa herrar återfinns bland roddarna.

Dessa årliga arrangemang hade som syfte att inbringa medel till inköp av den erforderliga utrustning som rodden krävde. Från vänster ses, sekreterare Knut Malmborg, kassör Herman Hammarlöf, Gustaf Andersson, ordförande Vilhelm Rolén, roddchef Viktor Lindeberg, Wathier Kroné, vice ordförande och intendent Sven Torgersruud, Emil Björling och Vilhelm Erlandsson. Föreningen bildades 1891 och fick till en början låna läroverkets båtar men redan efter 1892 års bal kunde man av Karlstad Roddklubb köpa två stycken 4-åriga kapproddbåtar och en 2-årig dito.
