Benjamin S. Downing was born August 1861 in Maine. Before moving to Alaska in 1897, he was living in Rochester, New Hampshire, and working as a stock shipper. In 1900, he was living on the Yukon River north of Eagle and was working as a U.S. mail contractor. He also operated the B.S. Downing Eagle & Dawson Stage Line .Caption on image: Cross the Boundry Line on the Yjkon, Feb. 12th, 1904 .On verso of image: Boundry line between Alaska & N.W.T .Warner [2097]Filed in Alaska series.
