The Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary was a multi-volume encyclopedic dictionary of the Russian language. It was first published in Russia in 1890, and it was one of the most comprehensive dictionaries of the Russian language ever published. The dictionary was named after its editors, Fyodor Brockhaus and Ivan Efron. The dictionary was published in 86 volumes and contained over 44 million words. It was considered to be a definitive reference work on the Russian language, and it was widely used by scholars, writers, and other language experts. The dictionary is no longer in print, but it remains an important reference work on the Russian language. Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary contains 121,240 articles, 7,800 images, and 235 maps. It was published in Imperial Russia in 1890–1907, as a joint venture of Leipzig and St Petersburg publishers. The articles were written by prominent Russian scholars of the period, such as Dmitri Mendeleev and Vladimir Solovyov. Reprints have appeared following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
