Andreas Feininger was a German-born American photographer and teacher best known for his photographs of architecture, landscapes, and scientific subjects. He was born in 1906 in Paris, France, and grew up in Germany. He began his career as a photographer in the 1930s, working as a photojournalist for magazines such as Life and Harper's Bazaar. Feininger was known for his unique perspective and attention to detail, as well as his use of light and shadow to create striking images. He photographed a wide range of subjects, including cityscapes, industrial scenes, and scientific subjects such as microscopy and X-ray images. Feininger was also a noted teacher, and served as the director of the Department of Photography at the New School for Social Research in New York City for many years. He wrote several books on photography and taught workshops and seminars on the subject.
