Women’s kimono decorated with chrysanthemums
Summary
Slightly lower in the kimono hierarchy is the tsukesage, a smart garment for occasions such as tea ceremonies. Com-parison with the more formal examples to the left reveals that the less formal the kimono, the more stylised the decoration. The undecorated area in the middle of
the kimono accommodates the colourful, wide sash, or obi.
