WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA - Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Regiment (also known as the "Old Guard") Drill Team competes during the Joint Service Drill Team Exhibition April 08, 2017, at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. Drill teams from all four branches of the U.S. armed forces and the U.S. Coast Guard competed in a display of skills at the event that celebrated U.S. military heritage at the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
The 3d U.S. Infantry is the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the Army, serving since 1784
The Old Guard is the Army's official ceremonial unit and escort to the president, and it also provides security for Washington, D.C., in time of national emergency or civil disturbance.
