Many contemporaries considered Jesús Corredoira the founder of the Galician school of painting. He gave his works a spiritual and symbolic character never before seen in Galician painting. He abandoned costume painting, so common among artists of the time, to emphasize the spiritual components of the figures, muted colors and exquisitely stylized forms - sometimes even deformed - to create a sad, moody and spiritualized atmosphere, almost dreamlike. He was also a great portraitist with a very distinctive style, characterized by dark chromaticism and an atmosphere typical of his style.
