Summary
The area's peninsular residential neighborhood, beach, and historic amusement park on Long Island Sound was originally part of the colonial town of Gravesend. By the mid-19th century, it became a seaside resort, and by the late 19th century, several amusement parks were also built at the location. They were among the first and most popular subjects of early post cards.
