Summary

U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Chris Harbour (left), a 21-year-old native of Marietta, Ga., and Cpl. George Eifert, a 22-year-old native of Cambridge, Minn., a loadmaster and wrecker operator with Trucks Platoon, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, work to repair the input shaft seal on a 7-ton truck while conducting maintenance following a combat logistics convoy here, April 5, 2012. As coalition forces prepare to transfer lead security responsibility of Helmand province’s Garmsir district to Afghan National Security Forces, the 3/3 motor transport Marines are faced with a daunting mission. They’ve functioned in their core capacity, logging 20,000 miles on more than 500 combat logistics convoys while supporting 3/3’s offensive combat operations and aiding in ANSF development. Simultaneously, they’re supporting 3/3’s logistics section in retrograding thousands of items spread across their 1,200 square-kilometer battlespace.
