Two Figurative Ornaments - Public domain museum image. A bronze statue of a man holding a staff
Summary
These objects were once ornamental finials. Such adornments often relate to ancient Javanese mythology, but it is uncertain which stories are depicted here. The standing figure is bound at his wrists, and turns to lock gazes with a kneeling figure. The young couple tells a story about love and strife, judging from the sharp sword in front of them and the embracing arm that unites them as one.
