The Tauregs are known as the "blue elephant people" because of their traditional blue dress, which is used as protection against sandstorms and heat. This image of the Tauregs has become their recognizable symbol. The Taureg are a nomadic people and are traditionally engaged in pastoralism, trade and agriculture. They speak various dialects of the Tahassi language and Arabic, and use Tifinah, a peculiar script that was developed to record their culture and history.
