Tilly Losch (1903-1975) was an Austrian dancer, choreographer, actress and artist. Born Ottilie Ethel Leopoldine Losch on 15 November 1903 in Vienna, Austria, she gained recognition for her contributions to the world of dance and performance. Losch began her career as a dancer in the early 1920s and quickly gained fame for her talent and innovative choreography. She worked with prominent figures in the arts, including dancer and choreographer Kurt Jooss. Her collaboration with Jooss resulted in significant contributions to German expressionist dance. In addition to her achievements in dance, Tilly Losch ventured into acting and appeared in several films. She was known for her roles in films such as "Die gute Erde" (1937) and "Der Garten des Allahs" (1936). Tilly Losch's private life was marked by a series of marriages to influential people. She was married to the Austrian composer and conductor Ernst Krenek and to Henry Herbert, the 16th Earl of Pembroke. Her association with high-profile personalities further contributed to her public image. After retiring from the stage, Tilly Losch continued to express her creativity through painting and sculpture. She died in New York City on 24 December 1975. Tilly Losch is remembered for her versatile artistic talents and her influence on the fields of dance and performance in the early to mid-20th century.
