Ellisii, Williams.—This beautiful species was intro-duced to this country by the late Rev. W. Ellis, whose nameit bears, and is undoubtedly one of the finest species we havein cultivation. The leaves are distinctly arranged in a dis-tichous manner, and about ten inches in length, broadlyligulate, dark green on the upper side, paler below, anddeeply and unequally bilobed at the apex. The flowers growin arching racemes two feet long, bearing from eighteen totwenty-four flowers, pure Avhite and very fragrant, the sepalsand petals reflexed, and the spur of the lip of a light cinna-mon colour and six inches long. The profile of the floweris an exact resemblance of a cockatoo. It requires the tem-perature of the East Indian house.—Madagascar. Fig.—Floral Mag., N.S., t. 191; Gard.
