The new 80-foot control tower, eight stories high, located on the Southeast end of the base, replaces the East Tower the later part of May. The structure and equipment, costing an estimated $320,000 was officially opened following an uninterrupted 72 hour equipment check by the AACS detachment, flight check tests by a crew from Tinker AFB, OK, and Civil Engineers from Air Force Material Command
