eptilien und Saugethieren gewohnlichstark entwickelte Quadratus lumborum ist bei den Vogeln sehrreducirt. Er ist gewohnlich ein kleiner, diinner Muskel, der vonder Visceralflache des Hinterrandes der letzten falschen Rippe zumDarrubeinkamme zicht. Er ist als die Fortsetzung der Intercostalesinterni iind des Obliquus abdom. int. in der lumbo-dorsalen Regionaufzufassen. Bisweilen sincl durch die Verkiirnmerimg der letztenfalschen Rippen zwei kleine Qiiadrati lumborum entstanden, z. B.bei It/tea. Der eine mehr kopfwarts gelegene konimt vom Randedes Ttiberculum und dem proxirnalen Elide des Korpers der 2 Rippedes 24 WirbeLs und inserirt sich fleischig an den gleichengegeniiberliegenden Theilen der niichstfolgenden, fast ganz verkum-inerten Rippe und an der Innenflache des Iliumkammes. Derzweite Muskel entspringt von der Rippe des 25 Wirbels und inserirtin Ermangelung eines Rippenbogens des 26 Wirbels fleischig aufder Innenflache des Iliuna in Hbhe des 25 und 26 Wirbels (loc. cit.,p. 126).
