After the last cartridge is ejected, the chamber is closedby first thrusting the bolt slightly forward to free it from the studholding it in place when the chamber is open, pressing the fol-lower d®wn and back to engage it under the bolt, and thenthrusting the bolt home; the piece is locked. (1) The rifle can be used as a single loader by turningthe magazine off. The magazine can be filled in whole or inpart while off by pressing cartridges singly down and backuntil they are properly in place. The use of the rifle as a singleloader is, however, to be regarded as exceptional.
