The departure of the sister of George III, Princess Caroline Matilda, for her new life as the Queen of Denmark, consort to King Christian VII on 3 October 1766. Caroline Matilda departed from Harwich for Rotterdam, on board yacht Mary.. Landguard Fort on the left of the picture.
The yacht appears to the right of centre, port-side on facing right. She is a ketch with two masts flying the British royal standard from main mast and what appears to be the Danish ensign from the mizzen mast, and the Union Jack from the stern and prow.
