The constitution of England (BM 1868,0808.13318)
Summary
Three sturdy tree-trunks stand against one another in the form of a tripod, bound by a ribbon inscribed "Respublica". The centre one is surmounted by a crown, the others, one by a mitre over which is placed a baron's coronet, the other by a smaller crown which appears to represent the top of a sceptre. From the centre hangs a pair of equally balanced scales, in each scale are three scrolls, inscribed respectively (l.) "Religion", "Law", "Authority" and (r.) "Liberty", "Right", "Obedience". n.d. ? 1774
