The battle of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805 RMG BHC0546
Summary
The battle of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805
A primitive painting, probably of the late 19th century, showing the ‘Victory’ breaking the line. She can be seen on the right of the picture engaged to the starboard side with the ‘Redoubtable’. On her port side she is shown raking the stern of a French two-decker. This ship is not identifiable, though it is not the ‘Bucentaure’. Ahead of her are a Spanish two-decker and the ‘Bucentaure’, though it is shown flying Villeneuve’s flag at the main. On the left of the picture the bow of a British two-decker is shown following the ‘Victory’ into action. The picture doesn’t seem to relate to any known painting or engraving.
