Tea Urn (England), 1777–78 (CH 18429537-6)
Summary
In the form of Atlas supporting the world. Triangular base with openwork decoration, on three ball feet, supports kneeling figure of Atlas holding a spherical urn on his shoulders. Surface of urn with relief decoration featuring four wreathed circular medalions, each suspended from a bow and showing one of four allegorical figures of the continents (Europe, Asia, America, and Africa) with attributes. Two pendant tassels (one concealing a spout) below embossed acanthus leaves supporing two ring handles. Slightly domed cover with moveable laurel-shaped knop in center.
