Summary
L'Avvenire (ship)
In March 1879, found by 'Black Prince' dismasted, full of water and deserted in the Atlantic. First mate and 4 men put aboard her and taken in tow. Heavy weather forced the 'Black Prince' to cast off, and those aboard got her shipshape and jury-rigged, sailing her 800 miles to St. George Island, Bernuda. Inquiry found that crew had attempted to scuttle the vessel. Captain and mates received severe sentences, ship sold, and rerigged, made sea-worthy, then resold.
