Stanislaw Chlebowski (1835–1884) was a Polish painter with Russian and Turkish connections; student of the Fine Art Academy of Petersburg; awarded gold and silver medals and honored with the title of „first class genuine painter” during his studies. In 1862 he left for Munich and then to Paris to become a pupil of Jean Léon Gérôme. From Paris he traveled to Belgium, Italy and Spain. His first success was selling his „Joanna d’Arc in Amiens prison” to Napoleon, the III.
