Staff members from the Defense Logistics Agency converged

description

Summary

Staff members from the Defense Logistics Agency converged in the gallery of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum armed with specialized moving equipment to carefully lift, crate and transport an 800 pound bell from the USS Alabama (BB 60), the binnacle from the USS West Virginia (BB 48), and a World War One sea mine. The artifacts were being transported and returned to the Naval History and Heritage Command’s Curator Branch for storage, in preparation for the opening of their new exhibit which chronicles the US Navy’s involvement in the Vietnam War. The exhibit is slated to open in 2019 and will encompass a large portion of the museum’s gallery. The Hampton Roads Naval Museum is one of ten Navy museums that are operated by the Naval History & Heritage Command. It celebrates the long history of the U.S. Navy in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia and is co-located with Nauticus in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Admission to the museum is free, simply by-pass the ticket line and take the stairs or elevator to the museum on the second deck. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released).
